Del.icio.us
I searched through my past posts and I am surprised that I never posted about the website Del.icio.us. It isn’t anything new at this point, but it is certainly worth mentioning since I have a link to it on my Links page. Delicious is a free website where you can store bookmarks online, organize your favorite places, and tag them so you can share the sites with others. The site became so popular, that a while back it was scooped up by Yahoo.
I find have found Delicious to be very useful, especially if you are using two computers. I tag pages when I am surfing with my laptop and can pull them up on another computer by visiting my Delicious bookmarks page. If you use Firefox, make sure you download the Delicious extension, that adds the site’s features to the browser toolbar and menus.
My favorite use for this website isn’t so much to store my own bookmarks, but instead to find other sites. It is an excellent place to visit if you want to branch out and find new places online. Every link has a popularity score based on the overall number of tags it is has received. I can’t tell you how many cool places I have found since I first visited Delicious. Once you start using this service, you’ll soon get hooked. The only downside is a slight delay from the servers when tagging new websites. The site response feels a bit lacking, but that primarily affects adding new links, not browsing the site itself.
