If you were around in the late 80s, you probably remember Rick Astley’s hit song “Never Gonna Give You Up”. If not, perhaps you have been Rickrolled in the past couple of years. If you’re not familiar with the term, Rickrolling is basically the act of tricking someone to watch the music video for “Never Gonna Give You Up”.

The absolutely ridiculous song “You’ve Never Been That Far Before” by Conway Twitty is something to behold. This again came to mind when this week’s new episode of Family Guy had a lengthy reference to Conway Twitty singing something that sounded perverted at best.

On my searches of ovguide.com, I found most anything I thought of…TV shows, movies, you name it. That site is my personal favorite of the three in my list below, and one you must check out.

This is one of the funniest, most ridiculous videos I have ever seen. It is a video from 1978 of William Shatner singing Rocket Man. I have had it on my list of favorites on YouTube for some time, and tonight I played it again, and almost fell out of my chair. It’s a must-see. Ha!

Handbrake

I read about Handbrake in a recent edition of Macworld. Handbrake is a free, open-source DVD-to-MPG4 converter that runs on Mac, Windows, or Linux. I downloaded the latest version for Mac and installed it a couple of weeks ago. This little gem is fantastic! It works incredibly well and has a wealth of options to choose from. Handbrake even works on encrypted DVDs. I tried converting a few chapters from some concert DVDs of mine, and it all worked beautifully. All video is converted to MPG4 format, which is very sharp.

In reality, I don’t know how often I’ll need to use a program such as this, but Handbrake works incredibly well, and doesn’t cost a cent.

Acceptable.tv

Have you seen the cool new show on VH-1 called Acceptable.tv? It is both a TV show and a website. On this show, short skits are featured that viewers vote for on their computers or cell phones. Shows that don’t get enough votes do not return the following week, and new ones are added. Visitors to the website can even vote for user-submitted amateur videos that could make it on the air if they garner enough popularity. So far, several of the skits have been quite funny. Regardless, I absolutely love the premise of the show, where the viewers and users are in full control of the content. It is a revolutionary idea. I hope it lasts.

Charlie the Unicorn

There is a hilarious video on YouTube called Charlie the Unicorn. You should watch this insane, poorly animated video. I have heard several references to it. I could do without some of the singing and dancing at the end, but the voices are hilarious throughout. It is pretty ridiculous, but after you watch it, you’ll be thinking about it later. Ha!
